Peter

Peter

After two decades of working long hours in hospitality management, sending portions of his wages back home, and receiving live-in accommodation, Peter was laid off and found himself with no source of income, savings, or a roof over his head.

“I found it really hard to tell friends and family about my situation and didn’t want to worry them and so I found myself rough sleeping. I was in shock, I had never imagined that I would be in that situation

Whilst sleeping rough, he became acutely unwell and after a hospital admittance, he was referred to Streetlink and is now working with a partner charity in Croydon. He is currently receiving support for his mental health, employment, and long-term accommodation, which has given him new hope and a fresh outlook on his future.

“I have had such fantastic support around my mental health during this time that it has really made me look at the kind of career I would like to pursue in the future. I would love the opportunity to be able to give people the help that was given to me when I needed it most and I feel that my lived experience of homelessness and the subsequent effect on my mental health gives me an insight that I wouldn’t have had otherwise.

Now having realised his ambitions of polishing his IT skills and getting back into the workforce, Peter needs our support to purchase a laptop, an IT training course, and essential clothing for job interviews to help him get back on his feet.

“I don’t currently have a laptop and so it would be really useful to have one now for job applications and for online studying. While I was homeless most of my belongings went missing so it would be great to be able to replace my lost clothing and shoes with some workplace clothing and an interview suit.”

Peter’s support worker:

“Peter would make the very best use of the funding and is so proactive in trying to improve his situation, it has been so difficult for him to lose his belongings and clothing and to go through the trauma of rough sleeping but he is determined to make a new start.”

Peter’s Next Steps:

Raise the money

Purchase laptop and new workplace wardrobe

Complete IT training course

Apply for jobs and attend interviews

Re-enter the workforce
