Poppy

Poppy

Poppy has endured a tumultuous childhood with an abusive parent. After moving away from home, Poppy fell into an abusive relationship. Sustaining multiple physical injuries that resulted in two hospital visits, her education was interrupted and her mental health deteriorated.

She began to receive support from Galop, an LGBT+ anti-abuse charity, who set her up in a hotel to avoid sleeping rough. As Poppy was fleeing domestic abuse, Galop was also able to provide money for food, emotional support, and a shared temporary accommodation through a local authority.

The shared female-accomodation proved unsafe and unsuitable for Poppy due to her mental health struggles and her previous abusive relationship, which was ignored by the local council. Ultimately, Poppy fled, feeling at risk of succumbing to thoughts of self-harm.

Poppy has now been placed in a local authority flat which has no furniture or essential goods. She is in need of our support to raise money to purchase items such as an electric oven, crockery, a bed frame, and a fridge/freezer.

Poppy has been looking locally as much as she is able to find second-hand furniture, but a fridge and a cooker are vital for her to be able to take care of herself properly.”

Poppy has fled violence and abuse and now has the chance to create a safe home for herself. By receiving funds to purchase essential furnishings for a place of her own, she will finally be able to process past trauma, heal, and build her future.

“She is unable to work due to her mental health. Poppy has no other source of income, no savings, and no family support. With support and some essentials in her new, safe home there is a higher chance of Poppy getting better, and working towards the independent life she wants, free from abuse and violence.”
